Wedding DJ

How much does a wedding DJ cost with JP Entertainment?
JP Entertainment has two wedding DJ packages: Classic with DJ Justin La Torre at $1,995 and Signature with founder John Owens (DJ JP) at $2,895. Both include up to 6 hours, a DJ plus an assistant, two sound setups, planning meetings with John, dance floor lighting with 8 uplights, and no travel fees within 50 miles of Post Falls.
What's included in a JP Entertainment wedding DJ package?
Every package includes up to 6 hours of DJ and MC service, a two-person crew (your DJ plus an assistant), two sound setups, planning meetings with John and our planning packet, dance floor lighting with 8 uplights, and no travel fees within 50 miles of Post Falls. Signature adds moving-head lighting, 4 ft LOVE marquee letters, and handheld party lights.
Can we choose which DJ we get?
Yes. Choose Classic ($1,995) to book DJ Justin La Torre, or Signature ($2,895) to book founder John Owens (DJ JP). Both DJs work from John's planning packet, and John leads the planning meetings either way.
Do you cover both the ceremony and the reception?
Yes. Both packages include two sound setups, so your ceremony and reception are covered. If you need a third space, like cocktail hour in a separate room, a third setup is $450.
Will our DJ MC the wedding, or just play music?
Your DJ is also your MC, handling announcements, introductions, and microphones for your officiant and toasts. John Owens MCs every Signature wedding, and DJ Justin MCs Classic weddings using the same planning process John built.
Can we request specific songs, and can we ban songs we don't want?
Yes. We build your playlist from your must-plays and favorites, and we keep a do-not-play list for anything you want to avoid. Guests can also make requests the night of, and your DJ filters those against your list.
How far in advance should we book our wedding DJ?
Most couples book JP Entertainment 6 to 12 months before their wedding date. May through October weekends fill first, so reach out as soon as you have a venue and date.
What happens if your equipment fails during our wedding?
We bring backup equipment to every event. In 15+ years, JP Entertainment has never canceled an event for equipment reasons.
How much space and power does a DJ setup need?
A DJ setup needs an area for speakers, a table, and lighting, plus standard power outlets nearby. We coordinate the exact space and power needs directly with your venue during planning.
Do you travel outside Coeur d'Alene for weddings?
Yes. There are no travel fees within 50 miles of Post Falls. We go anywhere within about two hours of Post Falls, from Spokane, Deer Park, and Newport to Sandpoint, Priest Lake, the Silver Valley, and the Palouse, and travel beyond 50 miles is a custom quote.

Pricing

What's the difference between Classic and Signature?
Classic ($1,995) is our all-inclusive wedding package with DJ Justin La Torre. Signature ($2,895) puts founder John Owens (DJ JP) on the mic and adds moving-head lighting, 4 ft LOVE marquee letters, and handheld party lights. Everything else is the same: up to 6 hours, a DJ plus an assistant, two sound setups, planning meetings with John, dance floor lighting with 8 uplights, and no travel fees within 50 miles of Post Falls.
How do we hold our wedding date?
A $1,000 deposit at signing holds your date. The balance is due by your final planning meeting.
Can we add extra hours?
Yes. Extra hours are $150 per hour when you book them in advance, or $250 per hour if you add time the night of.
What add-ons are available?
Extra hours ($150 per hour in advance, $250 the night of), a third sound setup ($450), additional uplights ($200 per case of 8), and 4 ft LOVE marquee letters ($340). Classic couples can also add moving-head lighting ($200) and handheld party lights ($50), which Signature already includes. Travel beyond 50 miles of Post Falls is a custom quote.
Can we add live music?
Yes. Live music starts at $700 and is custom-quoted. Choose the acoustic duo Bigger Than Us, saxophonists David Fague or Joel Sandford, or violinist Isaac Hirtle for your ceremony, cocktail hour, or over the dance floor.
Do you offer photography, video, or photo booths?
No. JP Entertainment focuses on music, MC, and lighting, so we don't sell photography, videography, coordination, bar service, photo booths, or tables and chairs. We work alongside great local vendors every weekend, though, and we're happy to recommend people we trust.
Do your prices change by season?
Our published package prices are the same year-round. May through October is our busiest season, so those weekends book out faster, not at a different price.
How are non-wedding events priced?
Corporate parties, school dances, holiday parties, fundraisers, graduations, and private parties are custom-quoted based on hours, location, and add-ons. Every JP event, wedding or not, includes 8 uplights.

Letters & Lighting

What can we rent from JP Entertainment?
Marquee letters and uplighting. Our 4 ft LOVE marquee letters are $340, and additional uplights are $200 per case of 8 (8 uplights already come with every JP event). Both are delivered and set up by our crew.
Do you rent photo booths, tables, or chairs?
No. We focus on music, MC, and lighting, but we're happy to recommend local photo booth and rental companies we trust.
What areas do you deliver rentals to?
We deliver across Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Hayden Lake, Rathdrum, Dalton Gardens, Sandpoint, Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Liberty Lake. There are no travel fees within 50 miles of Post Falls, and farther out is a custom quote.
Can rentals be used outdoors?
Uplights are wireless and battery powered, so they work indoors or out. Marquee letters work outdoors under cover with access to a standard outlet.
How far in advance should we book a rental?
Book rentals as early as you book your DJ, especially for May through October weekends when our calendar fills fastest. Reach out as soon as you know your date and venue.
What happens if a rental is damaged or the weather turns?
Every rental agreement covers damage responsibility, which we walk through before you sign. For outdoor events, we plan covered backup placement with your venue in case of weather.

Marquee Letters

How much do marquee letters cost?
Our 4 ft LOVE marquee letters are $340, delivered and set up. They're included with every Signature wedding package.
How tall are the marquee letters?
Each letter is about 4 feet tall and LED lit. They're sized to work as a photo backdrop or entryway display at most reception venues.
What power do marquee letters need?
They run on a standard outlet. We coordinate placement near available power when we set them up.
Do you set the letters up, or do we?
JP Entertainment delivers, sets up, and picks up the letters, so you don't handle any of it. Just tell us where you'd like them placed.
Can marquee letters be used outdoors?
Yes, as long as they're in a covered outdoor space with access to a standard outlet. We'll confirm the exact spot with your venue ahead of time.
Are marquee letters included in a package?
Yes. Signature includes the 4 ft LOVE letters. With Classic, or for a party, the LOVE letters are $340.
Can we get a word other than LOVE?
Right now we rent the 4 ft LOVE set. If you have a different word or initials in mind, ask us.
How far in advance should we book marquee letters?
Book them alongside your DJ package, especially for May through October dates when our calendar fills first. Earlier booking also gives us more flexibility on delivery timing.

Uplighting

How much does uplighting cost?
Every JP event comes with 8 wireless LED uplights at no extra charge. If you want more, additional uplights are $200 per case of 8.
Is uplighting included with a DJ package?
Yes. Every JP event, weddings and non-weddings, includes 8 uplights. Add more at $200 per case of 8.
Do uplighting fixtures need to be plugged in?
No, the fixtures are wireless and battery powered, so they don't need an outlet. That makes placement flexible along walls, tents, and other spots without nearby power.
How long does uplighting setup take?
Our team places and programs the fixtures as part of our standard setup before your event. You don't need to schedule separate setup time for it.
Where do you typically place uplighting fixtures?
We place fixtures along walls, tents, and behind the head table to accent your reception space. Exact placement is planned around your venue's layout.
Can we choose the uplighting color?
Yes, the fixtures can be set to any color to match your wedding palette. Let us know your colors during planning.
Can uplighting be used outdoors?
Yes, since the fixtures are wireless and battery powered, they work in outdoor and tented spaces too. There's no outlet requirement to work around.
Does JP Entertainment own its uplighting equipment?
Yes. JP Entertainment owns its uplighting, so availability and setup are in our hands.

Corporate Events

What kinds of corporate events do you DJ?
We DJ holiday parties, fundraisers, awards nights, brand events, and other company gatherings across our service area. Each event is custom-quoted based on hours and format.
Can you MC an awards ceremony or program?
Yes, John Owens MCs awards presentations, introductions, and scheduled programs, keeping the pacing on track for your run of show. He coordinates that run of show with your event planner ahead of time.
How do you handle music pacing for a mixed-age corporate crowd?
We read the room and adjust volume and music style through the night, from background music during dinner to dance music once the program wraps. That's the same crowd-reading approach we use at weddings.
Will your setup disrupt our meeting space or business hours?
We coordinate setup timing with your venue or office so equipment goes in without disrupting business hours or nearby meetings. We typically arrive a few hours early, the same lead time we use for weddings.
How does quoting work for corporate events?
Corporate events are custom-quoted based on hours, location, and any MC or program needs, since they vary more than weddings do. Tell us your event details and we'll send a quote.
How far in advance should we book a holiday party?
Book holiday parties as early as possible, ideally by early fall, since December dates fill quickly across our corporate clients. The same is true for other seasonal clusters like graduation season.
Do you bring backup equipment to corporate events?
Yes, we bring backup equipment to every event we DJ, corporate included. We have never canceled an event for equipment reasons in 15+ years.
Can you handle a multi-part program with several speakers?
Yes, we coordinate microphones and timing for multiple speakers as part of your event timeline. That includes handling transitions between presenters so the program keeps moving.

Private Parties

What private events do you DJ?
We DJ birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and school dances, in addition to weddings and corporate events. Each one is custom-quoted based on hours and setup.
Can you play clean, age-appropriate music for a school dance or kids' party?
Yes, we play clean edits and age-appropriate music for school dances and youth events, and we adjust the playlist to fit the crowd. We're used to reading a younger audience just as we would a wedding reception.
Do you DJ small parties, or only large events?
We DJ both. A small anniversary party and a large graduation party are each custom-quoted based on hours and setup.
Can we add lighting or decor to a private party?
Yes. Every JP event includes 8 uplights, and you can add more uplights, handheld party lights, moving-head lighting, or marquee letters. We don't rent photo booths, but we're happy to recommend local booth companies.
How do you quote a private party?
Private parties are custom-quoted based on hours, location, and add-ons like extra lighting or marquee letters. Reach out with your event details for a quote.
Do you MC private parties, or just play music?
Your JP DJ can MC announcements, games, or a program at a private party, in addition to DJing the music. It's the same MC role we play at weddings.
How far in advance should we book a private party?
Book as soon as you have a date, especially during graduation season and the holiday months when private events cluster. Earlier booking gives us more flexibility on add-ons too.

Our Team

Who will actually DJ our wedding?
You choose. Classic ($1,995) is with DJ Justin La Torre, and Signature ($2,895) is with founder John Owens (DJ JP). Either way, you meet with John and your DJ in planning meetings before the event.
Can we meet our DJ before the wedding?
Yes, planning meetings are part of every package, so you'll meet and talk through your timeline with your DJ before the event. This is one of the process steps couples consistently point to in our reviews.
Do all JP Entertainment DJs follow the same process?
Yes, every DJ uses the same written planning packet, timeline coordination, and backup equipment standard John has used for 15+ years. That consistency is the point of building a team instead of just adding freelancers.
What happens if our assigned DJ gets sick?
We carry backup equipment and coordinate coverage within the team so your event goes on as planned. This is part of why JP Entertainment has never canceled an event for equipment reasons in 15+ years.
Is Charisa part of the live music, or is she a DJ too?
Charisa Owens performs live music as half of the acoustic duo Bigger Than Us. She is not one of the wedding DJs.
How are new DJs trained?
New DJs are trained on John's planning packet, timeline coordination process, and backup equipment standards before they take on wedding dates. They shadow real events as part of that training.
How many DJs does JP Entertainment have?
Two DJs today: John Owens and Justin La Torre. We plan to add another DJ, who will train at real events before taking any bookings of their own.

Live Music

How much does live music cost?
Live music starts at $700 and is custom-quoted based on the musicians you choose and how long they play. Ask for a quote alongside your DJ package.
Who plays live music for JP Entertainment?
Bigger Than Us, the acoustic duo of John and Charisa Owens, plus saxophonists David Fague and Joel Sandford and violinist Isaac Hirtle, who also plays mandolin and guitar. We book them, build their timing into your timeline, and handle the coordination.
What does Bigger Than Us play?
Bigger Than Us is John and Charisa Owens performing as an acoustic duo with acoustic guitar, ukulele, cajon, and two-part harmony. It's a live alternative or complement to our DJ sets.
Can we book live music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, or both?
Yes. Live musicians can play your ceremony, cocktail hour, or both, and sax or violin can also play live over the dance floor with the DJ. We plan the exact placement during your timeline meetings.
Can we combine live music with a DJ for the same event?
Yes. Book live music alongside Classic or Signature, and we put the live sets and DJ sets on one shared timeline.
Is live music included in a DJ package?
No. Live music is an add-on to Classic or Signature, starting at $700.
Can we request specific songs for the live set?
Yes. Tell us your favorites during planning and the musicians build the set around them. The same do-not-play approach we use for DJ sets applies here too.
Can we book live music without a DJ?
Yes. Bigger Than Us and our sax and violin players can be booked on their own for ceremonies, private parties, or any event that just wants live music, priced through a custom quote.
